Sun Protection Is More Than Sun Tan Lotion

Writen by Cyndi Katel

Many people are not aware of a new to dress their children properly when planning a day at the beach, pool or just outside. A great way for the pool or beach is in SPF clothing. That is right, people are developing items for children to protect them from the the UVA and UVB ray. Doctors now know as adults, we may develop melanoma from one good burn when we were little. That is a high price 40, 50, 60 years later to pay.

I always played in the pool as an infant or was outside playing games in the neighborhood. Then as I became older - I was a lifeguard. I had the white nose, mirrored sunglasses (my skiing glasses) and wore socks; I wore socks because the tops of my feet always burnt. I wish we knew then what we know now. Suntan lotion and block once will not do the trick. One person every hour dies in the US from skin cancer which is TOTALLY preventable.

Wearing protective clothing that is rated SPF 50+ ensures you are taking the precautions we have today. Wearing the plain white t-shirt to the pool helps but there is now a better solution out there. Reading articles, I discovered the UVA and UVB rays goes right through the shirt your wearing in the pool and reflect off the water of the pool. The physical sunblocks are opaque and will reflect both UVA and UVB while the chemical sunscreens will usually only absorb UVB radiation. We did the best we could, now you can buy sunglasses (I believe this saved me from crow's feet now), swim suits, and tops that are SPF 50+. Kids today are lucky.

Australia has taken the ball and run with a campaign entitled Sun Safety to protect their population from the sun. Australians rate of cancer has dropped drastically. And it does not matter what color of skin you have. Even the darkest skin DOES get sunburned. Let's do that in the US - you may buy clothing and sunglasses at www.fivestarnights.com/baby and begin you Childs journey to a sunny, safe adulthood.

The American Cancer Society, together with Dermatologists and Pediatricians all, recommend UV Swimwear, UV Swimsuits and Sun Protective Clothing be worn for appropriate Skin Cancer Prevention.

We need to be serious about our baby, infant, toddler, child's sun protection. More rays are bouncing off the pavement as we have less grass. All the construction of buildings means more light reflecting off the glass onto us instead of the grassy playing field. Let's be honest - children at the pool will not reapply sun screen unless you are there to do it for them. Clothing is a great option and you don't even have to think about it! Remember Pale is the new tan!

As a parent you want to protect your children. If it is a rash vest (no, I do not know why it is called that) Sun Protective Clothing for skin conditions albinism or any other sun sensitive condition, or just want to protect your baby, children or the whole family against UV absorption YOU MUST DEVELOP BETTER SUN PROTECTION PRACTICES.
