The Comfort Of Baby Slings

Writen by LynnMarie S.

A baby sling is a unique and fashionable product. Slings are worn around the body and can be adjusted to wear at the hip or in many other positions. Historical evidence has shown that baby slings have been worn dating back to before the Middle Ages. Slings made an easy and affordable way for parents to travel with their children. The same theory holds true today. Baby slings allow a parent to keep baby safe, secure and in view while moving freely about. Baby slings have become one of the top gifts at baby showers.

Baby slings have become popular because of convenience and ease of use. They also afford the parent with a chance to bond with baby. Newborns need constant monitoring and parents can keep track of breathing patterns and other problems baby may run into. It also helps to mimic the womb. For around the house the sling is perfect because it keeps baby close by, but still allows for chores to take place. While in public it is great because it is less cumbersome than a stroller or car seat. Because they're so flexible, baby slings have become a favorite with moms and dads around the country.

Baby slings and baby carriers come in a handful of styles including the wrap around. The slings allow the baby to face forward; tummy to tummy, hip, nursing and kangaroo carry position. The cradling position is a source of comfort for newborns. Wrap around slings are worn over the shoulder and can often be fastened with a buckle or with the fabric by itself. Wrap around slings are the most common slings and some of the most popular. They are flexible and allow for a variety of positions.

Slings are usually made of soft, friendly fabrics. The cloth should be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the baby and keep it evenly distributed. If the weight isn't distributed evenly then parents will experience significant aches and pains. As the baby grows the weight can be distributed by using the different positioning of the slings. Most slings are machine washable.
